Retreat on Tromge Avalokiteshvara PDF Print E-mail

with Jigme Tromge Rinpoche
Chagdud Gonpa Khadro Ling
January 25th to February 1st/2009

Avalokiteshvara (Tibetan names: Chenrezig or T'hug-je Chenpo) is the lord of all-pervasive compassion whose intention never wavers to liberate all beings from suffering and to guide them to enlightenment. Avalokiteshvara is practiced in all the traditions of Buddhism as a method to consummate compassion and wisdom realization. The sadhana that will be used in this retreat is a revealed  treasure of Drimed Khachod Wangpo, a master from Tromtar, H.E. Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche's region of Tibet, and the most revered lama of Rinpoche's ancestral lineage.

The sadhana itself is extensive and is in the category of Maha-Ati—the visualization and the exalted language of the liturgy point toward recognition of mind's absolute nature. It's sections include a nyungne (fasting) practice, and it is chanted to many extraordinary melodies. Both Jigme Tromge Rinpoche and our Khadro Ling chant master (umze), Mauriã Sabbado, chant them with exquisite care—Mauriã traveled to Tromtar to learn them, and there he met the present incarnation.

It was a powerful aspiration of Chagdud Rinpoche that his Western students have access to this wishfulfilling jewel of a sadhana, and Jigme Rinpoche has supported his aspiration by offering the empowerment and leading great drubchen ceremonies. Chagdud Khadro and Lama Sherab Drolma have lead nyungne fasting rituals. In the United States Lama Padma Yontan Gyatso of Seattle, Washington, translated the Tibetan text into English with the support of the Padma Publishing Translation Committee. In Brazil, Clarita Maia translated it into Portuguese, and presently Yhana Riobueno of Venezuela is translating it into Spanish—both with the support of the Makara Translation Committee.  Rejoicing in what has been accomplished, we may participate in the retreat, using our hearts and minds to reduce the suffering in all the realms of living beings.

Open retreat for everyone!

Empowerment and teachings will be given for the main practice and for the nyungné fasting.

Includes practice during a solar eclipse on Monday, January 26th, with a multiplication of 10,000.

Texts will be available in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
