The sacred heart Tibetan Buddhism’s Nyingmapa tradition pulsates with the blessing of Padmasambhava. Through the power of his enlightened wisdom Guru Padmasambhava propagated the Vajrayana in Tibet and he established many swift, direct, and noble paths to spiritual realization that are accessible to practitioners today. Among these paths, none is swifter or more vital than meditating on Padmasambhava himself. When we enter Padmasambhava’s pure realm through an extensive guru yoga practice, we discover an array of wish-fulfilling gems beyond imagination.

Among the various guru sadhanas (liturgies) that he practiced with profound realization, our teacher H.E. Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche chose the Essence of Siddhi, a treasure practice revealed by his own revered teacher, Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, for elaborate practice in the context of a drubchen.

Drubchen means “great accomplishment.” In the past highly trained monks and yogis carried out the stages of practice until they achieved a high degree of mastery, then they performed it in a drubchen with elaborate rituals and with extensive offerings of tsog and sacred dances. In Asia today, lay people and Westerners generally do not participate in drubchen ceremonies except to circumambulate the temple where it is held. A few lamas allow Westerners to hold the mantra line.

It was Chagdud Rinpoche’s great confidence in Western practitioners—his assumption that they could learn complicated rituals, chants, dances, and that they could meditate while doing all this—that inspired him to inaugurate the first drubchens in the West.
It is said in Tibet that participation in a single week’s drubchen practice generates as much merit and wisdom as a year’s retreat. The positive momentum of a drubchen continues for months and years, and even lifetimes.

Chagdud Khadro, a widely respected lama and ritual master, will lead the ceremonies.

Offering opportunities

For those who cannot attend the drubchen, it is possible to make offerings and request prayers that personal obstacles be overcome. Many people make such offerings and requests on behalf of their family, friends, and for the peace and prosperity of sentient beings. Offerings and requests to remove obstacles and to recite prayers for the deceased can be sent to Khadro Ling.

Location and Access

Chagdud Gonpa (Khadro Ling) is in the city of Três Coroas, RS. The entrance for the Gonpa is at the first junction at Três Coroas on route RS-115 (Taquara – Gramado) or by bus 177 on route RS-020 (Taquara-S. Francisco de Paula).

Dress code

Because drubchen represents the most exalted level of ceremony, the appropriate dress is a full-length chuba skirt with a modestly cut top in red, burgundy, yellow, gold, brown, dark blue, or white. It will be hot, but no excuses.
